How to Choose a Term Paper Topic

A lot of students get low grades on their term papers. The reasons for this vary greatly. One of the reasons is unwisely chosen term paper topic. Do you know how many term papers your Professor has to read? Definitely not all term paper topics are interesting to read about. Sometimes, our professors even start swearing not to work as a teacher anymore :). That is why you had better not madden him/her anymore, but think of the most appropriate term paper topic and cover it perfectly.

So, here are 3 major criteria for choosing a good term paper topic:

  • A term paper topic should be new and relevant. With this purpose you might look through some archive of recent research papers in order to analyze what they are about, how they are written, what they are focused on, etc. You can always make up a new term paper topic from the old and already investigated one. The main thing is to formulate it appropriately;

  • A term paper topic should be specific. Broad and not specified enough topics are the indicators of your unawareness of the investigation area essence. When you decide on your term paper topic, get rid of everything odd. Use simple formula: What can be investigated? + In what way? + What results can be obtained? Choose the topic that would give you enough grounds to see clearly what to write about;
  • A term paper topic should be interesting. Try to think of the topic that might surprise your Professor anyhow. Even if the topic was discussed within the classes, try to formulate it in another way. Make your term paper topic as attractive as possible. Mind that your term paper topic should interest your reader as well as it should be exciting for you to investigate it.

Be sure to choose a term paper topic successfully if you take into account the main features of a good term paper topic presented above.
